Long Nights at Christmas
Grand performance
On 13 December 2023, the Jaro Dance Group and the Jara Band presented the traditional Christmas performance Long Nights at Christmas in the Great Hall of the Municipal Library of Prague, with all members of the ensemble on stage.
The programme opens with Advent customs – the masked processions of Saint Lucy, Saint Nicholas, Saint Ambrose and the Perchtas – continues to Chodsko with dances accompanied by Czech bagpipes, and celebrates the birth of Jesus with the dance of the Virgin Mary and Bohemian carols. The second part features dances and songs from Lachia in north-eastern Moravia.
The project was supported by the City of Prague.
